When the snow has melted and the ski season's finished, the mountains literally come alive with lush green trees, bright colourful meadows - and so many different outdoor activities that you'd struggle to do them all in the space of a week!

Mountain biking in the Portes du Soleil...

Mountain biking  The Portes du Soleil is a mountain biking mecca with 380kms of signposted paths and 9 downhill tracks in 6 French-Swiss resorts.

Walking in Graydon

Walking and hiking  There are countless walking routes around St Jean d'Aulps and the Portes du Soleil - a total of 800kms in fact! Enjoy the remote floral pastures, the waterfalls and streams and the amazing views of Mont Blanc from Les Gets and Samoens. Search the woodland for the shy Marmottes or Chamois, photograph the pretty, traditional chalets and chapels or climb to the top of the Seytroux Ridges for the most incredible views of the Vallee d'Aulps towards Lake Geneva. Take part in one of the organised walking tours with an experienced local guide and learn the history of the Abbaye d'Aulps. Whatever your preference, there is a hiking route for you to explore....

Lifts  24 lifts are open throughout July and August across the Portes du Soleil, giving easier access to the higher mountain routes. Walkers will enjoy being able to explore the higher mountain passes and mountain bikers can experience the thrill of the downhill without the drag of the uphill! A one day pass is €15 and 6 days is €60.

Watersports  Choose the sedate canoes or kayaks on Lake Montriond or take to the rapids in a white water raft. You may prefer hydrospeed - the same white water river but with an oversize float you hang onto instead of a raft! Canyoning has proved a big favourite too - climbing waterfalls and sliding down natural slides into rockpools and streams!

Golf There are 2 golf courses locally, both of which are ski runs in the winter! The 9 hole course is perched high above the valley in Avoriaz, with stunning views towards Morzine. The 18 hole course and driving range is in Les Gets and offers buggies to get you around the course more easily. Both offer tuition and there is also a Mini Golf course in Seytroux, about 5 minutes from St Jean d'Aulps.

Les Gets swimming lake...Swimming  There are numerous swimming pools and lakes in the local area. Morzine has a huge outdoor swimming pool, while Lake Montriond has a specially constructed safe swimming area at the end of the lake beneath the sheer rock face. In Les Gets, there is a man-made swimming lake with a waterslide set amongst the surrounding mountains and forests!

Karting  For the big kids amongst us, there are a couple of karting areas - in St Jean d'Aulps, we have a  quad bike racing circuit that includes bridges and small tunnels, while in Les Gets you can experience DevalKart - you get dragged up the hill in your kart and then you race back down the hill! Simple - and quite scary!

Adventure Parks  There are two adventure parks. Both Indiana Parc in Morzine and Aventure Parc in Les Gets have ropes, bridges and slides slung between the trees and you can complete the courses with varying difficulty depending on your age and ability. All safety equipment is provided and you will be helped by instructors - Indiana Parc is meant to be a bit easier for children but both are superb fun!

Parapente  Liz says I'm a wimp but there is no way you will ever get me to jump off the side of a mountain with only a flimsy piece of material strapped to my back to stop me hurtling towards earth!! However if that's your idea of fun, then go for it with one of the numerous companies offering parapente and gliding around Morzine, Les Gets and St Jean d'Aulps. Just don't say I didn't warn you...!!

Fantasticable  Imagine a taut cable stretched nearly 1.5kms across the Chatel valley....imagine you in a harness...imagine that harness attached to the cable, travelling at 80km, soaring above the land like a swooping eagle. That's Fantasticable! Probably not a ride for those with a fear of heights!

The beautiful streets of Annecy...Trips  We are able to offer day trips to local towns and villages on request. Explore the lakeside city of Geneva and make your way along the banks of Lac Leman to Thonon and Evian. Or how about a trip to Annecy, another Lakeside town with stunning architecture and countless cafes and bars to enjoy? Or perhaps a trip to see the glacier in Chamonix, taking in the views along the Montenvers railway and exploring the ice cave, a sculpture that is dug inside the glacier every year... day trips are from €10 per person, with a minimum total charge of €40.

Other activities  How about an hour or two of serene horseriding along quiet and shaded mountain tracks? You could try the summer toboggan run on the Pleney piste in Morzine or if tennis is your thing, there are courts available to hire in all the local towns including St Jean d'Aulps. In August, join us for the spectacular fireworks show on Montriond Lake - as night falls, the lake is lit up with dancing fountains, laser lights and fireworks that echo around the surrounding mountains. Awesome!
